LAN 6 Steering Committee Meeting

October 11, 2000


The meeting was called to order by Amelia Gover, LAN Co-convener, around 10:05 a.m. The meeting was held at Comprehensive Mental Health Center, 907 Martin Luther King Drive, Suite C in East St. Louis, IL.  

Members present: Bill Kreeb, Amelia Gover, Jacqueline Lesure, Denita Jacox, Shirley Reid, Tom Kircher, Rodney Jones, Marcus Lee, Desarie Holmes, Debbie Humphrey, Pamela Kirkwood, Stanford Scott, Dennis Harbison, Gwen Howard, Jason Ford, Vera Robinson, Jacky Johnson, Charleszetta Coley, Emma Rose, Lela Wilson, Debbie Storman.

The meeting was opened with introductions of committee members and the agencies they represent. The minutes were approved by Shirley Reid and seconded by Charleszetta Coley.   

Rodney Jones provided the Homeless Youth Report.

Denita Jacox provided the Wraparound Report, no referrals for today.  The fourth Wednesday at Screening Committee (4) DCFS referrals were reviewed for team resources and (1) Flex (non-ward) Wraparound Plan was approved by the committee.  Agencies were encouraged to participate in Facilitation training due to the need for Facilitators and Mentors in the LAN.

Tom Kircher shared a Facilitator Training will be held at Call for Help, October 25 & 26 from 9am to 4pm.

Desarie Holmes (CHASI) gave a detailed report on the Adoption Picnic.  It was reported to be a successful event, approximately 100 adults and 60 children attended.  It was suggested by the participants that the event be held annually.

Stanford Scott (AIM) provided information on Group Mentoring that appears to be successful with his program.

Marcus Lee (Father's Center) reported funding is available for Asbestos' training by Michael Holmes for a six week period, 30 slots and training with 15 individuals in two sessions.

Denita Jacox (Neighborhood House) reported families are being referred to other agencies such as Second Chance Shelter and Holy Angels  for rental deposits.  The agency has been assisting with other emergencies by utilizing in-kind funds.

Jacqueline Lesure (Call for Help) reported referrals are continually being made to Lessie Bates and other community agencies.

Tom Kircher reported additional information is needed to complete the FCS Year 2 application from Lessie Bates, Call for Help, and CHASI.

Debbie Humphries (Fiscal Agent) provided the committee with the figures of monies available to the LAN and shared agencies may obtain a portion of their funds.  Initiated discussion of how the additional $37,000 funding will be spent for Year 2 and a determining factor in adjustments in regards to the FCS contracts.

Bill Kreeb recommended each FCS provider receive 1/4 of their funding for Year 2.

Shirley Reid stated FCS providers should be working on collaborations in the LAN rather than competing for the same dollars.  A Planning Committee was scheduled for October 19, 2000.

Bill Kreeb shared information on the region meeting in Mt. Vernon.  Tom Kircher reported on a LAN that has been very resourceful in utilizing the school district in the Wraparound process.

Bill Kreeb handed out information on KidCare health insurance.  Debbie Humphries handed out web site address.  Tom Kircher shared a compliment with the committee that LAN 6 has the best web site.  Desarie Holmes received information on attending an Adoption Training in Springfield, IL.

Denita Jacox will prepare Planning information from the Steering Committee meetings in January 1999 to be reviewed at the Steering Committee meeting.  Debbie will provide updates on changes to existing contracts as a result of the Planning Meeting.

The next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2000.
