LAN 6 Steering Committee Meeting September 12, 2000 The meeting was called to order by Bill Kreeb, LAN
Co-convener around 10:05 a.m. The meeting was held at Comprehensive Mental
Health Center, 907 Martin Luther King Drive, Suite C in East St. Louis, IL. The
meeting was opened with introductions of committee members and the agencies they
represent. The minutes were approved with a noted correction. Rodney Jones provided the Homeless Youth Report. Denita Jacox provided the
Wraparound Report and a brief description of Wraparound.
Facilitators are needed for wraparound cases and a scenario was shared
regarding a case in need of facilitation. For technical assistance with
wraparound planning contact Shirley, Tom or me. Debbie Humphrey reported LAN
7 is experiencing the same problems regarding the need for facilitators. Tom Kircher shared
information regarding a meeting with several State’s Attorney’s at the St.
Clair County Courts Building regarding Wraparound services. He received approval
from the Steering Committee to write a letter to confirm procedures for
referring children and adolescents for wraparound planning. Shirley Reid, Tom Kircher
and Dennis Harbison provided information on wraparound cases and some of the
challenges in the wraparound process. Family Centered Services
Reports provided to Steering Committee. Desarie Holmes reported the Adoption
Support program is doing well. Interns are needed and she will participate in
the career fairs being held at Belleville Area College and Southern Illinois
University in order to recruit. Also, an adoption picnic is being held Saturday,
September 16, at Frank Holten Park from 8:00am - 12:00 pm for adoptive families. Torn Kircher gave a Family
Centered Services update, 650 families and 682 children received services
through LAN 6. He thanked all involved for the submittal and assistance with the
FCS Year 2 Application. Also, reported the Time Limited Reunification Funding
(Visitation Center) was submitted and that letters of support were provided by
the community. Elaine Searcy from Parent
Care & Share introduced Nicole Jocks (Parent LAN Liaison), and provided a
brief description of the program and identified agencies such as Head Start,
that are providing a group for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Shirley Reid volunteered to
Chair the Ad-hoc Committee to work with Judge Radcliffe at the St CIair County
Courts due to Lt. Slover having to assume additional responsibilities with his
job as reported by Denita Jacox. Vondell Bums volunteer to be on the Ad hoc committee. Debbie Humphrey stated the Quarterly Reports for FCS
are due by October 1 5th. Bill Kreeb reported a 15-16% reduction in Child abuse
and neglect in the LAN 6 area, which is due to the overall efforts of agencies
working together. Bill would like the Steering Committee to spend time
next month on future planning for the LAN.
