LAN 6 Steering Committee Meeting

July 12, 2000


The meeting was called to order by Bill Kreeb, LANs Co-Convener, around 10:13am.  The meeting was held at 2939 State Street in East St. Louis.

Members present:  Bill Kreeb, Desarie Holmes, Dennis Harbison, Peg Maher, Marcus Lee, Rodney Jones, Debbie Humphrey, Helena Quaid, Wynnell Byas, Shirley Reid, Tom Kircher, Jacky Johnson, Erin Arras, Cindy DeWitt, Winifred Leake, Jacqueline Lesure, Kathy Westley.

The meeting was opened with introductions of committee members and the agencies they represent.  The minutes from last month’s meeting were approved by consensus.

Rodney Jones gave the Homeless Youth Report.

Tom Kircher gave the Wraparound Report.  He stated that the flex funding cases are increasing, however, they still have a need for more flex cases.  Mr. Kircher also stated that there will be a Facilitator Training on October 25th & 26th.  The time and place of the training will be announced at a later date.

 

Bill Kreeb passed out the Family centered Services application information and asked each committee member to review the report and bring back some ideas they felt needed to be discussed.

 

Debbie Humphrey a brief report on Family Centered Services. She stated that 93 new children are being served, and said that there  are 306 children who are non-wards. The projected number of children to be served for the year was 1,046. Debbie says that all Family Centered Service Quarterly Reports must be turned to her by by July 15, 2000.

 

Marcus Lee gave a brief report on the Father’s Center. He stated that the programs were going well, and that they have been spending most of their time preparing for Graduation for computer class participants and the Elder Father of the Year Program.

 

Jackie Lesure, reported being a new employee of Call For Help. She did not have a report but was just trying to get the gist of what was going on. Jackie said that she will have a report ready for the next Steering meeting.

 

The provider for the Respite Program (Children Home & Aid/Granite City, IL) stated that they now have a Intern worker in place for their program. She stated that they will be recruiting for more interns in the Month of August this year.

 

There was no Marketing Committee Report however, in her absence, Vera asked Denita Jacox to schedule a Marketing meeting and contact all committee members.

 

Thin Kircher provided FCS information concerning additional monies are available for time limited reunification and adoption promotion and support populations. Applications are due by July 28, 2000.

 

Toni Kircher stated that LANs (6) should think about pursuing a Family Visitation Center. Debbie Humphrey state that St. Mary’s Hospital will be opening their Visitation Exchange Center soon. It was also mentioned that St. Elizabeth hospital opened their Visitation Center in March of this year. Bill Kreeb stated that the committee need to look at agencies that will initiate additional dollars for this project. 

 

The Planning Committee received its new application for Adoption & Safe Family.  The application is due to be submitted by August 18, 2000.  Mr. Kreeb stated that the committee  need to decide on making one of two choices; 1) Process a RFP for new services, or process a form for continuing services that already exist.  Mr. Kreeb stated that providers need to be brought up to standard so that the existing RFP can be kept instead of making application for new RFP.

 

Shirley Reid suggested that the Planning Committee come together and discuss meeting the challenge of bringing providers up to standard in order to stick to the original 3 Year Plan. it was also suggested that some information on the RFP be mailed out with the minutes in order to have a healthy discussion on the PIP before the application is submitted.

 

Helen Quaid stated that LANs (6) needed to have a Adoption Process Service seminar in our area that would be open to anyone from area. She was looking at a date of October 21,2000 at McKendree College, $150.00 per person/agency? (Fee may be waived).

 

Helen states that she need suggestions of topics to be covered and speakers to invite. She is requesting contributions from other LANs and agencies to help fund the seminar. Debbie Humphrey mentioned funds were not set aside through LANS as a whole to finance the seminar. Nevertheless, Helen stated if any of the agencies that the providers represent wanted to donate funds for this event, they should contact her.

 

Helen Quaid is asking all providers to contact her if you are planning on having a display booth.

 

Margaret Maher suggested that it would be a good idea for some of the agencies to pull together to provide funds for the seminar.

 

Debbie Humphrey said that the Website information has been forwarded to Cheryle and may be complete by the next Steering committee meeting.

 

Jacky Johnson reported on the Big Brother/Big Sister Program. He stated that the program is doing well and thanked everyone for their support. He also said that they are getting ready to have a Recruitment Reception, July 27, 2000 at the Jackie Joyner Center 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The reception will be a good way of recruiting volunteers and mentors for the program. If you know of anyone who wants to be a volunteer or mentor please invite them to the reception.

The next Steering Committee meeting will he held on Wednesday, August 9, 2000. A time and meeting place will be decided later.
