LAN 6 Steering Committee Meeting


January 10, 2001

The Child and Adolescent Local Area Network (6) Steering Committee met Wednesday, January 10, 2001.  The meeting was called to order by Danita Jacox, LAN Coordinator around 10:05am.  The meeting was held at Comprehensive Mental Health Center,  907 Martin Luther King Drive, Suite C in East St. Louis.

Members present: Ann Williams, Corey Dent, Deborah Storman, Denita Jacox, Shirley Reid, Rodney Jones, Marcus Lee, Desarie Holmes, Debbie Humphrey, Pamela Kirkwood, Stanford Scott, Dennis Harbison, Gwen Howard, Vera Robinson, Bennie Price, Jacky Johnson, Winifred Leake, Kathy Evansco, Anthony Jenkins, Peg Maher.

The meeting was opened with introductions of committee members and the agencies they represent.  The minutes were approved by Vera Robinson and seconded by Gwen Howard.

Rodney Jones provided the Homeless Youth Report.

Denita Jacox provided the Wraparound Report.  A meeting will be scheduled for all facilitators with current wraparound plans to discuss the status of cases and to discuss the need for facilitators to assume more responsibility for the follow through of developed plans.  Facilitators and mentors are needed, please contact me at 618-874-0777.

Desarie Holmes, Adoption Support Group, reported Phase 2 of the adoption support group will be held January 16, 2001 (6:30) at the Church of the Living God, Route 157.  This group is an invite to the participants of Phase I.

Marcus Lee, Father's Center, provided an update on the Asbestos training.  For additional information phone him at 618-874-1701 extension 31.

Kathy Evansco, Call for Help, provided a report.  Jackie Lesure is no longer with Call for Help.  For information regarding the Outreach Coordinator position, contact Larry Rose 618-397-0963.

Denita Jacox, Lessie Bates, shared information on families receiving emergency assistance through flexible funding program.

Vera Robinson provided an update on the Respite program.

Adventures In Motivation and Parenting for Success were not present.

Denita Jacox reported all Family Centered Services providers were mailed copies of the demographic and financial forms in December 2000.  Please see me after the meting if you did not receive them.  The forms will be reviewed at the Planning Committee meeting.

Shirley Reid shared Tom Kircher retired from Department of Children and Family Services.  Tom did prepare a Mentoring proposal to be submitted to Dr. Nate Anderson.

Shirley Reid will schedule an Ad Hoc committee meeting with members to review and address concerns by Judge Radcliffe about children that can no longer be detained by juvenile court.  LAN 7 will be contacted to participate in this meeting.

Also, Mrs. Reid reported the need for the Steering Committee to follow through on earlier plans to develop strategic planning for the year 2001.

Vera Robinson reminded the Steering Committee of the Marketing Committee to purchase the items approved last year.

Pam Kirkwood, Central Baptist, stated the proposal for the Visitation Center is still being reviewed.  St. Joseph Convent is no longer a housing option for the center.  Dennis Harbison provided information on possible options.

Emma Rose will be asked to send a representative to the LAN meetings in her absence.

Ann Williams shared a newsletter from School District 189.

The meeting was adjourned.
