Community Workshops to Strengthen Families

BUILDING POSITIVE STRENGTHS

In Your Young Child

Your child is changing every day.  She is picking up new words and understanding new ideas. Your relationship with your children is very important and powerful to them.  Through your example, your child can learn how to be both responsible and cooperative.  Group discussion in this workshop will center on teaching children problem solving skills, how to help others as well as themselves.  An exercise examining our children's good qualities is included in this 2 1/2 hour session.

JUST FOR GRANDPARENTS

The Love and Care Unlike Any Other

You are one of the most special people in a child's life.  You are always ready with a hug and a word of encouragement to bolster your grandchild's self-esteem.  Grandparents and grandchildren share a special bond because you understand and accept each other.  In Illinois, there are over 70,000 grandparents raising grandchildren.  If you are the child's primary caretaker it isn't easy but remember, our care and nurturing can make a difference.  Group discussion in this 2 1/2 hour workshop will focus on the issues of parenting children the second time around.

FATHERS MATTER

The Critical Balance In a Child's Life

You are the other half, setting the standard for your son and especially your daughter.  You demonstrate through behavior what you do not say in words modeling for her in particular, what manhood is all about.  A parent's behavior has meaning that influence the children and potentially determine their future outcomes.  For their sake and for yours, get involved.  Be a hands-on father and give your children an edge.  Group discussion in this 2 1/2 hour workshop will focus on role expectation in father-child relationships as well as alternative child management and problem-solving techniques.
